Local openly transgender Navy service member on Biden repeal, welcoming trans people into the military Posted at 10:07 PM, Jan 26, 2021 and last updated 2021-01-26 22:22:35-05 NORFOLK, Va. - There is now a sense of relief for Taryn McLean, who has been a member of the U.S. Navy for more than a decade. It felt great to be able to not have to look over my shoulder anymore or constantly be on the chopping block,” said McLean. McLean is a transgender man. He started his transition in 2012. “I decided I am going to be open with it,” McLean adds. When the Trump administration banned transgender people from joining the military, McLean tells us he was “grandfathered in” - but that wasn’t the case for everyone.

Columbia Adopt-a-Spot sign has many people asking questions

COLUMBIA- The Columbia Adopt-a-Spot Beautification Program has signs all across the city, but very rarely do these signs have people taking to social media to answer questions.  For the last two years, people driving north on South Providence Road have passed by this sign. It has created a conversation about the phrase that reads The Schultz s (Not Scott). The owners of the sign, Steve and Tracy Schultz, have used the sign to not only help clean up Columbia, but to give the community a little bit of humor.  We adopted the sign for two reasons. One I work for a company called Bartlett & West, a civil engineering company, and one of our core values is serving others through caring for our community, Schultz said. It also shows my son that giving back to the community is important.
